Exercise 2-1C: Natural Science Values

Step 1: Read this article (also posted as a pdf file, Exercise 1-1C_ SpiderRetractions) about a spider researcher who has been accused of manipulating data that claimed spiders have personalities. 

Step 2: Then, write a short paragraph answering these questions: 

• Why do you think other scientists are upset with the researcher, Jonathan Pruitt? What values or core principles of science did he allegedly violate? 

• What effect does the alleged fraud have in this case? Who will be affected, and how? 

• What does this case tell us, more broadly, about ethical communication in science?
