Exercise 1-1B: Switching Genres

For this exercise, you’ll be practicing identifying and employing genre conventions by reframing the same content into different genres.

Step 1: Your instructor will provide you with a version of the story of the three little pigs [here is one version from the early twentieth century]. Read through the story to get a sense of the content.

Step 2: Working collaboratively with your group members in Google docs, rewrite the story according to the following written genre conventions based on your conversations. Spend about 7-10 minutes on each rhetorical situation chart reimagining the stories and sketching what your compositions would be like for each genre (including any emendations to the original story):
